Professor Alvin Ing is a Professor, Respiratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, Macquarie University, and the Clinical Program Head of the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Program at the University. He has been involved in Interventional Pulmonology since 1993 when he helped establish endobronchial laser resection and stent deployment via rigid bronchoscopy, for the management of central airways obstruction at Concord Hospital. He was instrumental in forming one of the first and largest patient databases in this area. Since 2011, he has been instrumental in establishing Interventional Pulmonology as a Flagship Service of Macquarie University Hospital. Professor Ing pioneered many of the techniques currently used for endoscopic lung volume reduction in COPD, including endobronchial valves, thermal liquid ablation and polymer sealant instillation. More recently he has been the Principal Investigator for several First in World Trials in the investigation and management of lung cancer, including the use of Robotic Bronchoscopy (Galaxy System); Cone beam CT guided bronchoscopy; Local Thermal Ablation of Tumours; and initial utilisation of Rheoplasty.
